Hi there,
I’m writing this blog as a way to both honor and pay tribute to my mom (the way she was), and to also acknowledge, document, and understand better her current experiences with and perspectives on aging, as well as my experiences with those experiences.
Hopefully, by writing down some of these experiences and observations, you, my audience, may come to understand your aging parent better, and/or be able to anticipate or prepare for some of these experiences yourself.
It’s been 2 summers since my mom was diagnosed with vascular dementia. Essentially, my understanding is that she potentially had a small ischemic stroke in her language center. This has resulted in some communication issues: she is at a loss for words sometimes; sometimes, she can’t find the right word. It has been an adventure with my dad bearing the brunt of the stress, and me having to reconcile my old and new mom, and dealing with that.
I hope to record some of the my own experiences as well as my observations thus far.
Please bear with me as I fill in the posts. Thanks.
For now, to protect the privacy of my parents and myself, I am writing under a pseudonym.
Love,
Sam.
